Tornado watch issued for South Hampton Roads
Look out for tornadoes and high winds this morning — and maybe some hail, too.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch Saturday for South Hampton Roads and coastal North Carolina until 1 p.m.
“A couple tornadoes possible,” the tweet said, adding that “scattered wind gusts” could reach 75 miles per hour until 1 p.m.
A tweet from the weather service includes a map of a tornado watch area that extends from Virginia Beach to the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina.
Hail up to a quarter size — or an inch in diameter — is also possible, the weather service added.
On Friday night, the National Weather Service said more than an inch of rain is possible in much of South Hampton Roads, and up to an inch on the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula.
