Naomi Osaka was brought to tears by a heckler while competing at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, over the weekend.

The 24-year-old tennis pro was taking part in the competition on Saturday, where she went up against competitor Veronika Kudermetova.

during a break in play, Osaka asked the umpire for the microphone to address the crowd, but the umpire rejected the request. It is unclear if the spectator was identified and removed from the venue.

Osaka would go on to lose in straight sets 6-0 6-4.

"Emotionally, it seemed easier to stay away. There are some who say I should never go back ... I'm just following my heart on this one."
